Prepare for Printer Troubleshooting

Record the printer brand, full model number, and exact message or error code. Note whether it connects by USB, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or a print server, and which devices can or cannot print. If the printer can produce an internal configuration or test page from its control panel, bring it; this helps separate hardware and ink problems from driver or network issues. Keep a sample showing streaks, fading, wrong colors, or alignment defects. Note recent cartridge, router, computer, or driver changes. Bring the power cable and USB cable if used. When a job is frozen, stop resending it: repeated copies can remain in the queue and all print later. Preserve the first error instead.
